Founded in 1929, ChongQing University Library is a modernized library with glorious traditions, and is one of the biggest university library in West China. The collection held by the library amounts to 2,700,000 volumes, and the library has about 180 employees. It has four special branch libraries including the Science and Engineering Library, the Architecture Library, the Applied Technology Library and the Law Library. ChongQing University Library possess strong ability in Information technology develop and research, especially in internet database research. During "the Tenth Five-Year Plan", ChongQing University Library will take rank as top domestic modern library with distinct feature, become a comprehensive document information center in South-West China, and gradually achieve networking and electronic information resources, integrated automatic management system, diversified and modernized service function. In April 18, 2001, to adapt to the growing information needs of teaching and research, we began to develop the rudiment of digital library. Now we have huge amount of network information resources, such as CNKI periodicals database, Student Scholar's Home digital book, Elsevier SDOS, IEEE, ABI, WanFang database, EI, patent database, Database of National Standards and kinds of self-constructed database, etc. All the networking resources amount up to 10TB£¬and with high speed internet access. Meanwhile, we put much attention on the research of theories and practices of digital library, made those researches become a marking achievement of document information resources guarantee system of "211 project"of ChongQing University, and got favorable comments inside and outside of the university. Now the digital library have proximately 5000 person-time visits every day. ..
