Chongqing University attaches great importance to international academic exchange and cooperation. It has established inter-university links with 38 institutions of higher education in 13 countries or regions such as the USA , England , France , Germany , Canada , Australia , Japan , South Korea , Russia , Thailand , HK, Macao Taiwan, etc. Since the implementation of the reform and opening-up policy, Chongqing University has sent nearly 2000 teachers abroad for further study, attending international conferences, for academic visits or conducting joint research; we also received over 3200 overseas scholars including some world famous scholars like Dr. Z. N. Yang, Dr. Z. D. Li, Dr. C. L. Tien, Dr. L. R. Klein. Besides, the university has forged cooperative relations with about 20 prestigious international corporations or institutions such as Siemens, Rockwell Automation, IBM, Microsoft, Lipo Group, Liberty Mutual, Omron, FUNUC, etc. Joint centers and labs have been built for research and training purposes.

Chongqing University is a key university designated by the Ministry of Education to receive overseas students with the Chinese Government Scholarship. Up to now, overseas students from over 30 countries such as South Korea , Thailand , USA , UK , Switzerland , Germany , France , Egypt , Belgium , Japan , Vietnam , Syria , Ghana , Mali , Iraq , etc. have come to Chongqing University for study. In 2003-04, there were about 200 international students enrolled to study long term and short term for Chinese language, PhD, Master's or bachelor's degrees.
